Midvaal joint operation targets lawlessness in De Deur and Walkerville
Authorities targeted illegal activity, unsafe vehicles, and non-compliant businesses in a coordinated operation across De Deur and Walkerville.
DE DEUR / WALKERVILLE – Following requests from community members, Midvaal Local Municipality conducted a joint operation in the De Deur and Walkerville areas to address lawlessness and ensure compliance with municipal by-laws.
The operation was carried out in collaboration with the SAPS, the Department of Home Affairs’ Immigration Unit, Traffic Services, the Fire Department, and Health and Building Inspectors.

During the operation, a total of 49 individuals, 14 vehicles, and two premises were searched. SAPS arrested four foreign nationals without valid documentation, one person for selling illicit cigarettes, and two individuals for aiding, employing, or harbouring persons without proper documentation.
A mini roadblock was also set up to assess vehicle roadworthiness and driver compliance. Several offences were identified, including unroadworthy vehicles and the use of cellphones while driving. Fines were issued where necessary.

Municipal inspectors conducted compliance checks at 11 spaza shops. Four non-compliance warnings were issued, and two shops were closed. Several establishments were found operating without valid Certificates of Acceptability (COAs), while expired food products and unhygienic conditions were noted.
“Midvaal Local Municipality remains committed to enforcing the law and protecting the safety and well-being of its residents,” the municipality said in a statement. It added that joint operations with relevant authorities and stakeholders will continue.
Residents are encouraged to report concerns to the municipality to support ongoing enforcement efforts. The municipality said such operations aim to ensure lawful business practices and safer communities.
