Power outages continue across Vereeniging

Power outages continue to frustrate Vereeniging residents, with new faults affecting multiple areas while parts of Three Rivers have already been without electricity for days.

VEREENIGING – Residents in Sonlandpark, Falconridge, Helenasrus, and surrounding areas were left without electricity after a power outage occurred overnight on Wednesday night.

The latest outage comes as frustration continues to mount in parts of Three Rivers, where some residents have been without power for several days.

Elize Aucamp, councillor for Ward 45 of the Emfuleni Local Municipality, gave an update on Thursday morning.

Emfuleni Local Municipality Ward 45 councillor Elize Aucamp said the latest outage is linked to a fault at the SLP 1 substation.

The problem has been identified on the 11 000-volt breaker, and panels will need to be rebuilt.

Two service providers have been appointed to carry out the repairs.

The service providers are currently gathering the necessary materials before work can begin.

“This is a lengthy process and a lot of work needs to be done today,” Aucamp said.

At this stage, no timeframe has been provided for when electricity will be restored. Aucamp said she will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Affected areas include Sonlandpark, Falconridge, Helenasrus-kleinhoewes, Houtkop-kleinhoewes, Lenteland, and nearby neighbourhoods, while residents in parts of Three Rivers continue to await restoration following earlier outages.
