End of the road for unsafe Gauteng drivers
A week-long road safety campaign in Gauteng led to dozens of arrests, vehicle impoundments, and strict enforcement of driving laws over the festive season.
GAUTENG – The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport conducted a week-long road safety campaign, which began on December 22, aimed at addressing unsafe driving during the festive season.\
During the operation, authorities made 27 key arrests, primarily related to attempted bribes and drunk driving.
Officials also discontinued 110 unroadworthy vehicles, impounded 30 others, and apprehended 193 motorists without valid driver’s licences.
“These motorists pose a high risk on our roads and undo our efforts for safety,” said MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, who assured the public that enforcement efforts will continue beyond the festive period.
The department has also urged all road users to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic laws to help keep Gauteng’s roads safe.
