Gauteng authorities patrol N1 South ahead of New Year return traffic

Gauteng authorities hit the N1 South to ensure sober drivers and roadworthy vehicles as holiday traffic returns.

The Gauteng Roads and Transport Department, together with Community and Safety officials, has deployed road patrols along the N1 South to ensure motorists are sober and vehicles are roadworthy as holiday traffic returns to the province.

According to the department, the N1 South, one of the busiest roads in the country, is expected to experience increased traffic over the weekend. Officials are focusing on law compliance, safe driving, and vehicle roadworthiness to keep motorists safe during the festive season.

“It starts with you! E thoma ka wena!” the department said in a Facebook post, urging drivers to take responsibility for their own safety.

Authorities say these patrols are part of ongoing efforts to maintain safety on Gauteng’s roads as the province heads into the New Year.
