Midvaal Fast One returns

The 29th edition of the popular cycling challenge takes place on 25 January at Henley Model Airfield.

MEYERTON – Cyclists from across the region and beyond are gearing up for the 29th Midvaal Fast One Cycle Challenge, happening on January 25.

This year, the race moves to Henley Model Airfield, Uitvlugt Road, providing a fresh start and finish point and allowing for slight adjustments to the route while keeping the ride fast and enjoyable.

Organisers say the new venue offers a well-maintained, pleasant setting that enhances the overall race-day experience.

The event offers two routes: a 106 km course for experienced riders and a 62 km option for those seeking a shorter challenge.

Both courses are known for being fast and flat, making them suitable for first-timers and competitive cyclists alike.

Categories include licensed riders, open riders, tandems, e-bikes, para-cyclists, and youth riders, ensuring there’s a category for everyone.

Cycling in Midvaal isn’t just about speed — it’s also a chance to enjoy the scenery and share the experience with others.

Local officials note that joining rides or group cycling events is a great way to meet new people, build lasting friendships, and celebrate the community spirit, all while taking in Midvaal’s beautiful views.

Organisations have also paid close attention to road conditions along the route to ensure a smooth and enjoyable ride.

Number collection is available at Cycle Lab, Fourways on January 22-23 (09:00–17:00) and at URcycling, Vanderbijlpark on January 24 (09:0013:00).

Riders can also collect numbers at the venue on race day.

The first batch starts at 06:00, with the last batch rolling out around 07:20.

Proceeds from the race go to Rotary Charity Projects, and the venue will feature food and refreshment facilities inside the hangar, allowing spectators to enjoy the action in comfort.

Entries close on January 22.
