Midvaal launches new safety task force to combat crime

Midvaal is taking crime head-on with a new elite task force on patrol.

MEYERTON – The Midvaal Local Municipality says it has taken a major step in strengthening community safety with the launch of a dedicated Safety Task Force.

The unit was established to support the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Community Policing Forums (CPFs) in crime prevention across the municipality.

The move aligns with Executive Mayor Peter Teixeira’s undertaking to invest in the safety and security of all Midvaal residents. “This is a milestone for our municipality and demonstrates our commitment to keeping our communities safe,” the Mayor said.

The Safety Task Force currently comprises six trained officers with expertise in crime prevention and intelligence-led operations.

The municipality has also supplied the unit with two high-performance Ford Raptors, fitted with advanced technology including number plate recognition cameras linked to the SAPS database.

These resources allow for visible patrols and operational support throughout Midvaal.

Since beginning operations in December, the Task Force has already assisted in arrests related to illegal firearms and ammunition, fraud involving false vehicle registrations, and unlicensed immigration activity.

The municipality emphasized that the establishment of the Task Force is part of a broader commitment to creating safer communities.

Midvaal plans to continue investing in initiatives that strengthen security and support law enforcement partners.
