Vaal AC celebrates a year of grit, guts and glory

From triathlons to trail runs, Vaal AC members showed dedication, consistency, and a true team spirit throughout an outstanding year.

VEREENIGING – The Vaal Athletic Club recently rounded off a successful year with its AGM and prize-giving at the picturesque Lion’s Creek in Glen Donald, Midvaal.

Members gathered to reflect on a year of commitment, achievement, and camaraderie, while celebrating athletes who consistently went the extra mile across multiple disciplines.

The prestigious Triathlon Trophy was awarded to Miné Peach, recognising outstanding all-round performance.

In the cross-country category, Xanté Harris claimed the award as Junior Ladies Cross Country Runner of the Year, while Marietjie Ceronio and Roelof van Wyk were honoured as Senior Ladies and Senior Male Cross-Country Runners of the Year, respectively.

Consistency and dedication were highlighted with the Time Trial Trophy going to Charles Malherbe, and the Duo Trophy (Tough One & 94.7) awarded to Pieter de Wet.

The Most Improved Lady and Gentleman awards were presented to Monica Jordaan and Robert McTavish, applauding their notable progress throughout the season.

Road running excellence was recognised with Jacques Burger and Anja de Bruin named Road Runner of the Year in the male and female categories.

Anja de Bruin also enjoyed an exceptional year, adding Female Trail Runner of the Year and Cyclist of the Year to her accolades.

Leon van Rensburg stood out as a dominant force, being named Male Trail Runner of the Year and Club Personality of the Year. He completed an impressive lineup of events, including the Comrades Marathon, Skyrun, the 10th Loskop, and Mont-Aux-Sources in a single year.

Further honours included the Andy Capp Award, presented to Stephen Smith.

The evening culminated with Marietjie Ceronio being crowned Sportsperson of the Year, capping off an outstanding season.

The awards evening reflected the depth of talent and strong spirit within the Vaal Athletic Club, setting an inspiring tone for the year ahead.
