Meyerton SAPS hosts spiritual crime prevention outreach

Police, religious leaders and local authorities gathered to promote moral leadership, community safety and social responsibility.

MEYERTON — The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Sedibeng District hosted a spiritual crime prevention outreach at God on Earth Church in Sector 1, Meyerton Farms, on Saturday, 25 January.

The event, held from 07:30 to 14:30, was organised by Meyerton SAPS Social Crime Prevention in partnership with various stakeholders, including the Meyerton GBV Coordinator, Midvaal Traffic and Fire departments, the Department of Community Safety brigades, health services and members of the congregation led by Pastor Ntuli.

The aim of the outreach was to start the year on a positive and spiritually grounded note, encouraging law enforcement officials and community members to carry out their daily duties with good intentions and strong moral values.

Scripture from Matthew 25:1–10 was shared by Charmaine Leotlela, who explained its relevance to everyday life and the importance of placing God first, improving communication and remaining spiritually prepared for challenges faced in both personal lives and law enforcement duties.

Meyerton GBV Coordinator Warrant Officer Mohlapholi addressed domestic violence and emphasised the importance of protection orders, warning victims against cancelling them due to emotional manipulation, as this could place their lives at risk.

Social Crime Prevention Coordinator Constable Nompumelelo Zazini highlighted the role of churches in crime prevention, stressing their responsibility in supporting youth, the homeless, widows and orphans, and in addressing issues such as gender-based violence, crime and substance abuse through community programmes and mass prayer.

Midvaal Fire’s Mathapelo Rantsie demonstrated the use of fire extinguishers and discussed fire safety, while Midvaal Traffic Superintendent Nomsa Godole spoke on road safety, licensing requirements, overloading and vehicle roadworthiness.

The programme concluded with a candlelight moment by the church’s Sunday school in remembrance of victims of a recent scholar transport accident in Vanderbijlpark. A total of 100 pamphlets were distributed during the event.
