Two cyclists killed on R82 near Walkerville

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local cycling community, coming days before the South African Road and Time Trial Championships are due to take place in Midvaal.

EIKENHOF – Two cyclists were killed in a collision along the R82 (Old Johannesburg Road) near Walkerville on Sunday morning.

The cyclists were reportedly travelling uphill towards Walkerville when the crash occurred. Their deaths were confirmed in a message circulated on a local cycling WhatsApp group.

“It is with a heavy heart that I need to inform you guys that two cyclists were tragically killed in an accident going up Walkerville this morning,” the message read.

Emergency services and police had not yet released official details at the time of publication. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear.

The incident comes just days before the South African National Road & Time Trial Championships, scheduled to take place in Midvaal from 5 to 8 February 2026.
