BREAKING: Rand Water attaches Emfuleni bank account
Rand Water has freezed the Emfuleni Local Municipality’s account, halting electricity and waste services.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Last week Rand Water is said to have attached the Emfuleni bank account due to a short payment of R100 million.
A reliable source informs that Rand Water demanded a R300 million payment but Emfuleni could only pay R200 million.
The bank account was attached bringing service delivery to a halt in some departments.
According to an Emfuleni Local Municipality insider, the most affected is electricity and waste collection departments as they need diesel for their vehicles.
Whilst officials made an effort to pay for diesel out of their own pockets, they cannot continue.
A new contract for the supply of fuel is waiting for signature, however, without money to pay for the fuel, the appointment serves no purpose.
Meanwhile negotiations continue between Rand Water and Emfuleni.
Councillor Maureen Dosoudil, the DA’s Chief Whip in the Emfuleni Caucus says: “The Democratic Alliance trusts that agreement can be reached today to ensure residents get the services they pay for.”
“New vehicles have been purchased on a full maintenance lease, will Emfuleni be able to meet the end of the month commitment or will be see our new vehicles attached as well?” she asked.
Dousodil said that in light of the directors consequences of this bank attachment, the Democratic Alliance urge both parties to make every effort to resolve this impasse as soon as possible.
