VAALPARK – Vaalpark Primary School’s Milan Stopforth proved to be one of the best in National Abacus and Mental Arithmetic.
She won a gold medal at the AMSASA National Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Championship, which was held on Saturday. The championships took place at Hoërskool Florida in Roodepoort.
The school explained on their Facebook that at the national championships, each child had to write 3 x Soroban (Japanese abacus) exams – each 3 minutes long, and 1 x Anzan (mental maths) exam – also 3 minutes long. 182 Children were competing in the event, each according to their level and age.
