DA welcomes resignation of Emfuleni Supply Chain Manager

The DA says the resignation of Emfuleni Supply Chain Manager Jason Mkhwane marks a victory for accountability after concerns over his dual role as a senior ANC official and municipal employee.

The DA in Emfuleni has welcomed the resignation of Jason Mkhwane from his position as Supply Chain Manager at the Emfuleni Local Municipality, describing it as a victory for accountability and good governance.

According to the DA, Mkhwane’s simultaneous role as Regional Secretary of the ANC while employed full-time at the municipality created an untenable conflict of interest.

“The DA consistently maintained that no individual can serve two masters, and his departure now ensures a necessary separation between political office and government administration,” the party said in a statement.

The party said it had raised concerns about Mkhwane’s absence from municipal duties and questioned whether he had been on sabbatical leave while pursuing his political appointment.

During a full council sitting, DA councillor Maureen Dosoudil sought clarity on the matter, with the then mayor confirming that Mkhwane was on sabbatical leave. However, Mkhwane later reportedly stated in media reports that he had been on annual leave.

The DA said the inconsistency further highlighted the need for decisive action.

Despite welcoming the resignation, the party said it would continue pursuing the matter, arguing that Mkhwane should repay any salary received from Emfuleni Municipality while serving as ANC Regional Secretary.

“Public funds must be protected, and accountability must prevail,” the DA stated.

The party added that it believes the resignation is a direct result of pressure exerted by the DA and reflects its commitment to clean governance, transparency and the protection of taxpayers’ money.
