AS the rate of hijacking incidents increase year-on-year across South Africa, there are new trending methods that motorists should be aware of.
Hijackings in drive-through queues at fast food outlets is the latest modus operandi, which involves perpetrators blocking drivers awaiting their orders.

“So hijackers will block you at fast food restaurants, from the front as well as from the back. You will be identified as a target vehicle and they will then close the gap between you and [them] and pull out their guns,” said Bobby Petkov, CEO of Miy-Mak Motors.
“You cannot reverse as there is a car behind you and in front of you.”
Motorists are urged to be vigilant when behind the wheel, whether stationary or moving, so as to not become a hijack victim.
