SPCA Alberton team finds animals living in deplorable conditions at smallholding
An SPCA Alberton site inspection at a smallholding uncovered sheep, cattle and pigs living in deplorable conditions, with some animals having already lost their lives.
A recent site inspection by the SPCA Alberton team has highlighted the difficult realities faced by animal welfare inspectors.
The team attended a smallholding where sheep, cattle and pigs were found living in what the SPCA described as “deplorable conditions.”
The animals were exposed to cold, wet weather and left without the care they desperately needed. Sadly, some of the animals had already lost their lives.
The SPCA Alberton said the incident was a reminder that its work extends far beyond caring for animals at a shelter.
“These are the realities that our inspectors are faced with, and a reminder that the SPCA is so much more than a shelter,” the organisation said in a statement.
Its inspectors work in the community to investigate welfare concerns, respond to animals in distress and advocate for animals that cannot speak for themselves.
“It isn’t always easy to see, but it is necessary,” the SPCA said.
The organisation also highlighted the importance of continued community support, explaining that every call answered, inspection attended and animal helped requires resources.
“With your support, our team can continue being there for animals who have no one else to speak for them because they need us, and we need you,” the SPCA said.
The SPCA Alberton urged the community to continue standing behind its work and, regarding the smallholding, confirmed that “steps and action have been put in place.”
