Exciting changes boost Drak Descent
To cater for the bigger registration needs, the race base has been shifted to Glencairn Farm on the Sani Pass road.
AS entries continue to stream in for the fifth edition of the Euro Steel Drak Descent in partnership with FNB, Durban mountain bikers can look forward to some sweeping innovations to the popular two day, 84km, stage race from Restmount bridge at Early Mist Farm on 19 and 20 January.
With an increase in entries the race’s reputation has spread around the country resulting in the organisers introducing a new shorter version that covers 43km over the two days. This truncated version has also attracting a big entry and has forced the race organisers to expand their logistics behind the event.
To cater for the bigger registration needs and to offer an attractive accommodation alternative, the race base has been shifted to Glencairn Farm on the Sani Pass road, the start of the fabled KAP sani2c and overnight for the joBerg2c stage races.

Registration will take place at Glencairn and any riders keen to stay at the farm will be able to book accommodation separately, as accommodation in the area is always at a premium as the FNB Drak Adventure Weekend also hosts the N3TC Drak Challenge canoe marathon and the GWK Run The Rivers trail runs.
The new race base at Glencairn has also paved the way for a new route at the start of Day Two that will take the riders from Glencairn back into the uMzimkhulu valley through some single track that has the organisers very excited.
Race organiser Derek Christie said that the new route used existing cattle track and farm road as the race was passionate about minimising the impact on the environment and not cutting new single track if it can be avoided.
