Don’t miss creative exhibit
The Intellectual Property exhibition brings local Durban and KZN artists and crafters together to showcase their work and give the buying public a 'home-grown' alternative.
THE Intellectual Property exhibition 2017 opens at The Plant, 5 Station Drive, Durban, on Thursday, 5 October at 5.30pm for 6pm.
The exhibition is an annual event intended to bring local Durban and KZN artists and crafters together to showcase their work and give the buying public a ‘home-grown’ alternative. The exhibition will be opened by Rosemary Mangope, CEO of the National Arts Council.
The title Intellectual Property gets to the heart of the issue – that local artists and crafters face a massive retail sector that continually harvests from the fertile grounds of the ‘small guy’ artist and crafter and then ships the idea off-shore for cheap production. The title is intended to encourage the viewing public to think more deeply about this issue – and hopefully decide to support local artists and crafters rather than going for the ‘cookie cutter cheapies’ at large retail stores.
Work on show is unique and falls broadly into the category of ‘gallery’ work and results in an eclectic collection of high-end art and craft that showcases artists’ and crafters’ talent to the public.
This year the exhibition is an exciting mix of jewellery, painting, decor, craft, furniture, collaborative projects, fashion, music and performance.
The exhibition is free and open to the public, and runs on Friday, 6 October from 9am to 3pm and Saturday, 7 October from 9am to 1pm.
