Twitter reacts to the delivery of new electric trains

Twitter users make fun of the delivery of 100 new electric trains in the midst of load-shedding.

TWITTER users had a field day yesterday, July 6, mocking the announcement of the 100 electric trains added to the South African public transport fleet. The minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula accepted the delivery from a South African company that manufactured the trains.

Mbalula said the trains include the delivery of quality services to citizens and the revitalisation of South Africa’s rail-engineering industry through local manufacturing and maximising of local content in line with the country’s Industrial Action Plan.

The delivery of the trains took place in the midst of the various load-shedding stages that are set to go on for the rest of the week. Twitter users did not receive the news of the delivery well as they questioned the effectiveness of trains with the ongoing blackouts, and with some mocking of the said milestone.
