It’s another exciting weekend of football ahead of us, with plenty to get football fans’ hearts racing.
Here are our three top picks and predictions for the weekend.
Betway Premiership
Saturday
Kaizer Chiefs v Orlando Pirates
The first of two Soweto derby weekends in a row sees Kaizer Chiefs host Orlando Pirates in the Betway Premiership on Saturday.
Pirates come into this game after a week, to forget that saw them exit the CAF Champions League and lose at home to Sekhukhune in the Premiership.
That result left the Buccaneers’ chances of catching Sundowns in the title race hanging by a thread. Jose Riveiro’s side will be desperate to bounce back on Saturday, and will still be favourites to beat a Chiefs side enduring a miserable season in the league.
Prediction – Chiefs 1 Pirates 2
Sunday
English Premier League
Chelsea v Liverpool
Chelsea will have to endure the irritation of giving Premier League champions Liverpool a guard of honour when the two sides meet at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. When the game kicks off, Enzo Maresca’s men will hope the Reds are still suffering from over-celebrating after sealing the title with a 5-1 hammering of Spurs last weekend.
Chelsea are chasing a Champions League spot next season by finishing in the top five in the table. The Blues have won their last two matches, but the race is so tight they really have to keep racking up the three points.
Prediction – Chelsea 0 Liverpool 2
Sunday
English Premier League
Brighton v Newcastle
Another big game on Sunday in the battle for the Champions League positions Newcastle’s visit to Brighton and Hove Albion. Newcastle bounced back from a 4-1 hammering by Aston Villa to beat Ipswich 3-0 last weekend and keep their Champions League hopes well and truly alive.
Brighton are out of the running for a Champions League spot but are having another fine season. The Seagulls also beat Newcastle 2-1 at St James’ Park in the FA Cup fifth round on March 2, and beat them 1-0 in the Premier League at the same venue on October 19.
Prediction – Brighton 1 Newcastle 1
