Don’t miss this private collection

South African Contemporary and Old Master Art & Collectables from the private collection of Prof Marinus Wiechers will be up for auction on Monday at 2pm and 5pm respectively at Bernardi Auctioneers Fine Art in Pretoria.


Starting with porcelain and ceramics, including William & Walter Moorcroft, a Lenci Elena Scavini bust, Royal Doulton figurines and seriesware including Gnomes Pattern, Royal Albert, Shelly, Arzberg and Gouda tea and mocha sets.

Lladro & Goebel Hummel collectable figurines, Italian Murano Glass, Stuart Crystal, WMF claret jug, Roland Ward “Trophy-etched” drinking glasses, silver and electroplated wares, including Indian and Colonial pieces, will be offered, as well as collectables, toys, survey and scientific instruments, and a rare “Laubscher Pop” doll from Graaf-Reinet.

There are 160 lots of paintings, drawings, sculpture and graphics going under the hammer, featuring a 1963 oil by Ephraim Ngatane, Figures around the Fire, Orlando – according to the family it was gifted by the artist to the vendor’s late husband who was a personal friend of Ngatane.

A striking Cecil Skotnes carved and painted “Figural” panel, Colbert Mashile’s Sacrificial Lamb, stone & bronze sculptures by Bill Davis, Maureen Langley, Danie de Jager, early Edoardo Villa’s and busts by Hezekiel Ntuli will be sold.

Other lots available on Monday include impressionistic oils by Eroll Boyley, Adriaan Boshoff, Christiaan Nice and Ruth Squibb, Zakkie Eloff sepia watercolours and an early oil of Spur-wing geese, a Robert Hodgins ceramic plate, a William Kentridge etching, Alexis Preller, JH Pierneef, Maud Sumner and Maggie Laubser drawings, Dirk Meerkotter etchings and a bas-relief sectional ceramic panel, Nico Roos landscapes, Brent Record, Pieter van der Westhuizen, Anna & Gordon Vorster, Walter Battiss, Philip Badenhorst, Carl Buchner, Claerhout, Marcella De Boom, Amos Langdown, Erich Mayer, G W Pilkington, Brindley Pritchard, Gunther van der Reis, Malan Roux and a pair of Adelio Zeelie African Landscapes.
