Limpopo’s ‘Man in Crisis’ opens in Giyani cinema next week

It will be screened in Giyani's Masingita Mall on December 20 before opening to the rest of South African in 2020.

Dambuwo TV has finally announced the release date for its romantic drama, Man in Crisis, set to be the first indigenous movie to be screened in Giyani.

Dubbed the pride of Limpopo, the movie follows the life of a Limpopo-born musician, Shandu Mmbara – played by former Muvhango actor and Speak Out presenter Lesley Musina – who is faced with a difficult decision to either become an international star or continue on his family legacy.

The movie explores themes of love and cultural integrity and boasts some of South Africa’s biggest soapie names former Muvhango actors Millicent Makhado, Mulalo Mudau and Mutodi Neshehe, Israel Makoe, Mukundi Mphaphuli, Gabriel Temudzani, Mpho Luse Sebeng, Hebron Hangwelani Sigwavhulimu, and Skeem Saam’s Mogau Motlhatswi.

Man in Crisis will be the first indigenous Limpopo movie to be screened in Giyani’s Nu Metro Cinema and the second cinema release in Tshivenda after Ntshavheni wa Luruli’s Elelwani released in 2012.

It will be screened in Giyani’s Masingita Mall on December 20 before opening to the rest of South African in 2020.

Director Shadie Mphaphuli said: “The movie is an original Limpopo story that has a massive appeal to a local audience as they will be seeing people and places they know, the culture they identify with, and their very own local-born stars on the big screen. The movie is guaranteed to be a stand-out hit.

“We plan to take the cinema to the people. From big cities to the rural villages, Dambuwo TV will set up a state-of-the-art mobile cinema package consisting of massive 6x3m high-quality LED panel screens with 5.1 surround sound, smartly designed dark lit decorated cinema halls fitted with air conditioners, kids entertainment areas, photo booth and popcorn kiosks.”
