Afro Geek Fest
Afro Geek Fest will take place at Jabulani Safe Hub in Soweto on Saturday, 24 May.
The festival will showcase a colourful blend of gaming, animation, indie comics and music, celebrating African identity and storytelling through geek culture.
Stretch and Reflect at Somatic Saturdays
Wellness seekers can find their zen at Nuru Studios, 44 Stanley, Johannesburg, on Saturday, 24 May.
Somatic Saturdays: Meditation and Yoga with Gina is a one-hour session aimed at bringing stillness, focus, and alignment to the mind and body.
Through guided meditation and movement, participants will be encouraged to build resilience and reconnect with the present moment in a calming, intimate setting.
HoB Book Swap
The Home of the Bean Book Club in Maboneng is celebrating its second anniversary with a Book Swap on Sunday, 25 May, from 12am.
Guests are invited to bring a book, or a few, they’re ready to pass on and exchange them for new reads. The event offers a welcoming space for book lovers to discover new favourites and connect with fellow readers in the heart of the city.
Sound Bath and Journalling
A calming mix of sound therapy and reflective writing will take place at Living Yoga in Parkwood on Sunday, 25 May, at 12am.
The 60-minute session includes gentle sound vibrations while participants lie comfortably on mats, followed by a journalling practice to help release emotions, gain perspective and cultivate calm.
Attendees are advised to wear loose, comfortable clothing. The session is not suitable for individuals with epilepsy, pacemakers or those in the first trimester of pregnancy.
LAB vs Kwasha improv playoff
Expect high-energy, unscripted hilarity at the Ramolao Makhene Theatre in Market Square, Johannesburg, on Saturday, 24 May.
Students from the Market Theatre Laboratory will go head-to-head with the Kwasha Theatre Company in a fast-paced improv playoff. Trained by improv expert Ncumisa Ndimeni, the performers will test their quick wit and comedic timing in front of a live audience.
With laughter as the scorekeeper, only one team will walk away as Joburg’s ultimate improv champions.
