Late Shona Ferguson gets best actor nomination for Netflix’s ‘Kings of Jo’Burg’

'Kings of Jo'Burg' was also nominated by the Hollywood and African Prestigious Awards for Outstanding Drama Series in Africa.


Connie Ferguson was thrilled to share that her late husband, actor and co-founder of Fergusons Films, Shona Ferguson has been nominated for a big award.

The actress posted on Instagram late on Tuesday that Shona was nominated for Best Lead in a Drama Series for Netflix’s Kings of Jo’Burg.

He was recognised by the Hollywood and African Prestigious Awards (HAPA) and the ceremony will take place this Sunday in Los Angeles.

Connie wrote: “My dear husband, I always told you that you were my favourite actor to work with, and probably one of the most underrated in this country. Your talent was beyond! How you committed to each character you portrayed always left me in awe. You will never be forgotten! EVER! I have always been proud of you, and you continue to make us proud beyond the grave! God is good. Bravo Mr Sho! Bravo!”

Shona played the character, Simon, the charming head of his family’s criminal business as his younger brother and ex-convict, Mogomotsi “Mo” Masire, portrayed by Zolisa Xaluva, gets out of jail.

Mo finds himself having to choose between the life that got him in jail and honouring his responsibilities to the crime family, and the older brother he loves.

Shona passed away on 31 July due to Covid-19 complications, aged 49.

Kings of Jo’Burg was also nominated by HAPA for Outstanding Drama Series in Africa.

Connie thanked the Fergusons Films team for all their hard work and HAPA for the nominations.

“Win or [lose], we did it! Let’s continue cooking with grease and making magic! Mr Sho, you were the biggest part of this vision! It saddens me that you are not here physically to see it flourish in this way, but I know you’re smiling and celebrating with us! We love you and are eternally grateful for the love and passion you shared with all of us!
