No clear winner as ‘Idols SA’ finale nears

The top three contestants performed their original singles, with Karabo and Berry delighting judges Randall Abrahams, Unathi Nkayi and guest judge Msaki.

Idols SA has reached its final stages and the last two, Berry and Karabo, battled it out on Sunday night to capture the hearts of Mzansi in hopes of winning the singing competition.

S’22Kile bowed out from the top three after receiving the least votes but didn’t walk away empty-handed as she is guaranteed a record deal with Kalawa Jazmee Records.

The top three contestants performed their original singles, with Karabo and Berry delighting judges Randall Abrahams, Unathi Nkayi and guest judge Msaki with their performances.

Msaki, real name Asanda Lusaseni Mvana, is a singer-songwriter from East London and has previously worked with artists such as Sun-El Musician, and Prince Kaybee on the hit song Fetch Your Life.

Audiences enjoyed her appearance as a guest judge, especially the advice she gave to the final two and her opening performance.

Karabo’s original single Hosanna was a hit with the judges, with Randall applauding the singer while Msaki called Karabo’s voice “anointed”. Berry blew the judges away with her single, Ungowami, and both Unathi and Msaki commended her for the reverence and respect she showed to the Zulu culture and language.

The show started with the top two performing songs from their auditions. Karabo sang Ndidinge by Cici, while Berry performed Never Enough, from The Greatest Showman movie soundtrack.

Their final performance was a reboot during the showstopper week, with Karabo performing Aretha Franklin’s Respect and Berry impressed Msaki with her rendition of Christina Aguilera’s Something’s Got A Hold On Me.

Berry and Karabo will go on the Idols SA stage for the final time this coming Sunday and the singing competition has promised that big artists will grace the stage for the finale.
