Apart from the wonderful festive tunes and the brilliant performances, celebs also stunned viewers with their taste in stage fashion this year.

It’s only a few days ago that singer Nadine took to Instagram with a throwback post saying that two years ago evening dresses, large audiences and maskless smiles were the norm for a special Christmas performance.

This year, although the festivities took place virtually, glistening evening wear was certainly not neglected by celebs at the SPAR Carols by Candlelight.

Singer Kelly Khumalo not only stunned the virtual audience with her incredible vocal talents; she also left room for comment with a bold, sparkly mini dress by Tsotetsi KL. One fan dared to comment, saying: “How lovely are your branches,” possibly referring to her legs.

Many other sparkly evening dresses were worn by celebs on the evening, adding special sparkle and festive cheer to the Christmas event from a fashion point of view.

Both Charlize Berg and Tarryn Lamb were dressed in full-length sequin dresses, adding a little extra glam to the stage. Berg later also performed in an off-shoulder, black evening dress finished off with sequin detail with fans commenting, saying her performance was “magical”.

Of course, South African fashion comes with a special flavour and the Mzansi Youth Choir and Zolani proved that a South African Christmas stage can’t be festive without traditional colours and attire and J’Something matched that with a trendy, orange jacket.

Even the kids show beforehand was filled with festive fashion, with Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp sporting a lovely red jumpsuit, coupled with a bold, black belt. Rozanne McKenzie wore a red and yellow dress, effortlessly echoing an overarching African festive flair.

The SPAR Carols by Candlelight, presented by Jacaranda FM was streamed live on 2 December and will be broadcast again on Christmas eve at 5pm. It is held every year to raise funds for the radio station’s popular Good Morning Angels team, gifting vulnerable children across South Africa toys of their own every Christmas.
