Deborah Fraser beats battle with diabetes

South African gospel legend Doborah Fraser has released her first album in almost two years, after disappearing from the public eye to face a difficult struggle with diabetes.

Fraser’s new album, entitled ‘Umqhele’, is her eighth and includes the song ‘Xa Ndilahlekayo’, which she says she wrote during some of her darkest days.

“I had accepted and prepares myself to take the journey of death,” the singer told SunBuzz. “Through this song I was asking God to guide me and accept my soul. But things turned out differently. Here I am, alive and smiling.”

For her new album, Fraser blended her trademark gospel songs with Zulu folk music, collaborating with maskandi artists Phuzekhemisi and Thokozani Langa. She also recorded a song called ‘Akekho Ofana Nawe’ with Soul Brothers lead singer David Masondo, who she is rumoured to be dating.
