Lillian Dube postpones birthday bash

Local actress and producer Lillian Dube, who underwent surgery for breast cancer in 2008, has discovered another lump in her breast, prompting her to undergo a single mastectomy to ensure her continued remission.

Dube has always been an advocate for breast cancer awareness and is in good spirits despite her recent set-back. A week short of her 70th birthday celebrations, which was to coincide with the launch of The Celebrities for Good Causes Foundation, the icon has been advised by her medical team to get some rest, resulting in planned festivities – originally set for October 22 – being postponed.

In a recent press release, she was quoted, saying, “The surgery went well and I’m so happy to be home. I am disappointed to postpone my birthday celebrations and the launch of The Celebrities for Good Causes Foundation, but I have to make my health a priority. I am feeling a lot better, but I am going to need a little more time to recover. As they say, the show must go on, and I will now be celebrating my 70th birthday later than planned.”

Dube continues to encourage women throughout the country to take charge of their health and have regular check-ups.

Yesterday, Sunday World reported that the actress has reconnected with old flame, Kenneth Mgqamqo, who has been a pillar of support during these trying times. It is understood that Lillian may undergo breast reconstruction at a later stage.
