Diski Divas Wendy and Kat tell all

And yet this is exactly what led to Wendy Parker and Katlego Mohoaduba being axed from Diski Divas, South Africa’s version of Footballers Wives. But both women say there’s far more to the story than meets the eye – not least of which is that no blows were exchanged during the now infamous altercation on Kaya FM.

“There was no violence,” Parker says. “There was pushing and pointing in faces, and a bit of hair pulling. It was not as violent as the media has made out. No klaps were given out.”

According to Parker, the fight had been brewing for some time. Nonhle Ndala, who was involved in the incident, had been taking jabs at her co-stars for a while. This only became apparent to Parker when she saw the final edits that were screened on TV.

“The next step would have been to sit down and have a confrontation with Nonhle,” she says. “Not a physical confrontation, but to sit down and say, ‘you know, you’ve said some things’ and find out where they come from. Unfortunately that meeting never happened. Kaya FM was the only place where we would find her.”

Mohoaduba had requested a one-on-one with Ndala, but this request was denied.

“I think the producers knew this was a volatile situation,” Parker adds. “And they knew in no uncertain terms that Nonhle was being abusive. There was no intention to go in there and attack her. We simply wanted answers.”

Parker isn’t proud of what happened at the radio station. “Yes we are role models. But as well as being a role model I am a human being, and there is only so much I can take. I apologise for my methods. I don’t condone violence,” she says vehemently.

One burning question remains: if Ndala was involved in the incident why is she still on the show? Neither Mohoaduba nor Parker can answer this, but they are as curious as the rest of us.

“This whole show was about uplifting people,” says Mohoaduba. “Yet it’s been said Nonhle was given a script. So how can we uplift people when someone has been given a script to degrade women and to trash women?”

Parker adds: “To the best of my knowledge it wasn’t scripted.”

However, she has her suspicions. “After the altercation, I said ‘guys, I’m done’. On Sunday, I met with the executives and I also said I didn’t want to go on. Then on Tuesday I met them and they said to me ‘we are letting you go’. Next thing it’s all over the media that I’ve been fired?” Parker says.

Both women have new projects on the horizon and are content with how things panned out. Mohoaduba has a few endorsement deals in the works while Parker is focusing on her charity initiatives.
