Dr Musa speaks up after being dragged into the Maphorisa-Thuli Phongolo drama

'I just wake up and love my wife. That’s all,' said Dr Mthombeni after negative comments about his looks and his marriage to Liesl Laurie.

Broadcaster and medical doctor Musa Mthombeni, popularly known as “Dr Musa”, recently had to speak up after his name was dragged into the DJ Maphorisa-Thuli Phongolo drama.

Earlier this week, the pair began trending after they were rumoured to have been dating thanks to a series of photos and videos on social media.

The conversation quickly shifted focus and became about how a man who looks the way Maphorisa does can win the affections of a woman who looks like Phongolo.

Although there were those who argued that Phongolo looks happy whenever she is around Maphorisa – an indication that she is in love and enjoys his company – most social media users decided that Phongolo was with him because he has more money than the average man.

Counterarguments against this narrative used Dr Musa and his new wife Liesl Laurie-Mthombeni as an example that a woman will fall for anyone as long as her heart is in it – presumably insinuating that Musa was not good looking and that Liesl married him for reasons other than love.

“Waking up from my post-call nap to a divided country,” tweeted Dr Musa, along with a series of laughing emojis. He then addressed all the things that had been said about the matter and how he shows love for his wife.

“People must leave you alone. Enjoy your love in whichever way you wish to. It’s beautiful,” commented journalist Tshidia Madia.

“I don’t bother anyone. I just wake up and love my wife. That’s all,” concluded Musa.

This furore is the latest in a series of dating rumours involving Phongolo who, in the past has been linked to Skeem Saam’s Eric Macheru, Imbewu’s Raphael Griffiths and Master KG.

She denied dating Maphorisa in a tweet that said “Y’all stop, we’re not dating! I’m so done with you guys!”

She also agreed with a social media user who said the backgrounds being compared were from a hotel where all the rooms are designed and laid out in the same way.
