Everybody loves Trevor Noah

Top South African comedian Trevor Noah has signed a deal to star in an American sitcom based on his life.

Website Deadline Hollywood reports that the comedy show will be produced by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s company, Overbrook Entertainment, for US television channel Fox.

The show’s 30-minute episodes will draw inspiration from Noah’s stand-up comedy and also his life as a mixed race South African, with a Swiss father and Xhosa mother, growing up in Soweto.

Noah will act as producer for the show, which will be written by Sameer Gardezi, who has written for successful shows such as ‘Modern Family’, ‘Outsourced’, and ‘Aliens in America’.

Credited for having sold the most DVDs by a South African stand-up comedian, Noah in 2012 became the first South African stand-up comedian to appear on the long-running American late-night talk show ‘The Tonight Show’. He was also a guest on the ‘The David Letterman Show’ earlier this year while his US comedy special, ‘African American’, premiered on Showtime in July.
