The Lo Down: SA Style Awards 2014
Celebrating its 19th year, the SA Style Awards was held this past weekend in the new fashion court at Hyde Park Corner with an impressive red carpet event followed by a dinner at the Southern Sun Hyde Park Hotel.

One of the most prestigious occasions on the South African fashion and social calendar, the SA Style Awards celebrate South Africa’s trendsetters: those who create a benchmark for excellence in their specific career paths, says founder of the SA Style Awards, publicist Jill Grogor. “They recognise individuals who act as a source of inspiration for young people to show that through hard work and determination they too are able to fulfil their dreams,” Grogor adds.
Celebrity guests at the SA Style Awards included Bonang Matheba, Vanessa Carreira-Coutroulis, ChianoSky, Lee-Ann Liebenberg, Jen Su, Maps Maponyane, Lalla Hirayama, and Kerry McGregor.
As part of this year’s awards ceremony, guests witnessed an YSL beauty installation featuring eight designers: Craig Jacobs, David Tlale, Lauren du Plessis, Gert-Johan Coetzee, Malcolm Kluk, Suzaan Heyns, Thula Sindi, and Tamara Chérie Dyson. Each designer was tasked with pairing one of their looks with a shade from the YSL colour palette to showcase the luxury fashion house.
Advocate Thuli Madonsela took top honours by being awarded the coveted ‘SA style icon’ title and joins the stylish company of previous award recipients including Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Ryk Neethling, Pabi Moloi, Cameron Van De Burgh, and Michelle Mclean.
