Miley Cyrus thinks it’s powerful to be recognised as a household name

Miley Cyrus, 20, wanted to drop her surname to become a single name icon but is worried this would affect her status as a household name which she thinks is ''powerful''.

Miley Cyrus thinks there is ”something powerful” about being a household name. The 20- year-old star rose to fame on Disney’s ‘Hannah Montana’ and as she reinvents herself for a more mature audience considered dropping her surname – like Beyonce, Shakira or Ke$ha – but was worried it would affect the recognition she currently has.

She told Notion magazine: ”I was thinking about dropping the Cyrus and just being Miley but there’s something powerful about the fact that my name now is like a household name.”

The star was born Destiny Hope Cyrus, but her childhood nickname, Smiley Miley, stuck and she legally changed her name to Miley in 2008 when she was 15. The singer also says she is currently living the dream in Los Angeles, California, and working ”really hard” on her music career.

She explained: ”I work really really hard, I’m just in a different environment. I’m young and living and in Los Angeles which is everyone’s dream, you know. ”I’m living it to the fullest. Rather than taking a blessing and making it a curse, it’s just like this is what this name is now.”
