Revlon denies global campaign with Bonang

"Bonang is continuing her relationship with Revlon as a Brand Ambassador for South Africa".

Media personality, Bonang Matheba’s status as Revlon’s newly appointed global brand ambassador is unclear.

On Friday March 18, Matheba announced on her Instagram page that she is now a Revlon global brand ambassador and that her latest Revlon campaign would be launching in April. While her fans showed the media personality support and well wishes, Revlon South Africa’s communications manager, Michelle Stevens revealed that there were no plans to launch a global campaign with the media personality.

Says Stevens: “Bonang is continuing her relationship with Revlon as a Brand Ambassador for South Africa. At this time, there are no plans to launch a global campaign with Bonang. As is Revlon policy, we do not comment on any further details of our Brand Ambassador contracts,” said Stevens.

The former LiveAmp presenter , however was adamant about her global campaign saying that “you are talking to the wrong people, you contacted the wrong people, please get in touch with my publicist”.

Upon contacting Matheba’s publicist Pumza Nohashe, who first said Matheba’s contract stated what she posted on social media.

Nohashe then later issued a statement saying that Metro FM presenter has enjoyed a great three year relationship with Revlon SA and was very honoured when the brand came back to renew their partnership, specifically, as per the agreement extending her territory of endorsement. However admitted that Matheba may have been premature about her announcement saying:

“The social media posting by Ms Matheba, was made a bit previous to the official announcement, which will come in due course.”

The publicist also said in relation to the global campaign was a PR exercise on Matheba’s own account. “Ms Matheba recently travelled to the US on her private PR exercise, which involved a photo shoot, with New York based creatives. It is from this personal PR shoot that REVLON SA chose an image to use for their upcoming in-store Colorstay promotion, due to launch on April 4, 2016. This together with contractual indicators, expressly provide for her global ambassadorship.”

In 2015, Matheba announced on social media that her Woolworths lingerie range, Bonang for Distraction would be in stores in Australia. However, the major retailer later released a statement saying that there was confusion around an incorrect announcement made on Matheba’s social media platforms relating to the extension of her lingerie capsule collection into Australia.
