Mafikizolo colourfully paints the African continent

By Tshepiso Makhele

After three years of absence from the recording studio, South Africa’s musically acclaimed hit-makers, Mafikizolo, are back in 2016 with a brand new single and video, aptly titled Colours of Africa.

With the single, Colours of Africa, the duo is ready to continue where they left off by once again collaborating with the celebrated and talented Tanzanian artist Diamond Platinumz, as well as the finest producer, DJ Maphorisa, who has in the recent past worked with Mafikizolo, including Nigeria’s mega stars Davido and Wizkid, as well as American hip-hop artist, Drake, and many more successful musicians.

“Colours of Africa talks about unity in our beautiful continent, with a very diverse culture. It also encourages the spirit of excellence in the continent to conquer the rest of the world,” says Mafikizolo member Theo Kgosinkwe. The video was shot in different locations around Johannesburg, South Africa, and fuses the different cultures, dance moves, sounds and musical styles that reflect the vibrancy of the continent.

“We know very well that our fans have been waiting for new music from us. We have heard them and we know that they will thoroughly enjoy our first single, while we are putting final touches to the album,” adds Nhlanhla Ncisa. Mafikizolo’s last release was an album titled Reunited in 2013. The album enjoyed immeasurable milestones locally, across the rest of the continent and internationally. Reunited saw Mafikizolo scoop 8 SAMAS in one night, as well as MTV Awards, Metro FM Awards, AFFRIMMA Awards, ANN7 Most Celebrated Personality Award, among many accolades achieved by the duo in 2013 and 2014.

In keeping with previous releases, the group is releasing Colours of Africa as a single, with the album to follow later.
