Murdoch Mysteries returns for season 12

The detective's associates help solve his varied cases and traverse Victorian-turned-Edwardian society.

Set in Toronto at the dawn of the 20th century, Murdoch Mysteries is a one-hour drama series that explores the intriguing world of William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson), a methodical and dashing detective who pioneers innovative forensic techniques to solve some of the city’s most gruesome murders.

Series 12 of this hugely popular ITV Choice show premieres on the DStv channel 123 on Tuesday, March 5 at 8pm.

Each week two episodes will be played back to back – for nine weeks.

Murdoch’s circle of associates includes Constable George Crabtree (Jonny Harris) – his eager and often naive right-hand man – Inspector Brackenreid (Thomas Craig) – his sceptical yet reluctantly supportive boss – and the love of his life, pathologist-turned-psychiatrist Dr Julia Ogden (Helene Joy) – a staunch ally who shares the detective’s fascination with forensic science and innovative ideas.

All help Murdoch to solve his varied cases and also to traverse the many strata of Victorian-turned-Edwardian society.

In the first episode, Murdoch Mystery Mansion, Murdoch and Ogden’s new house – designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright – is rocked by an explosion that claims a man’s life.

Guest-starring in the episode is Sophie McShera, who played Daisy Mason in Downton Abbey.

The storyline for episode two – My Big Fat Mimico Wedding – has Murdoch, Ogden, Crabtree and Brackenreid attending Higgins’ wedding to Ruth Newsome, where a guest repeatedly tries to kill the groom.

There really is never a dull moment in Murdoch Mysteries! Don’t miss the 12th series.
