Sindi finds it hard to detach from ‘Muvhango’s’ Thandaza

In an interview with 'BONA' magazine, Dlathu said actors struggle with removing themselves from their roles, taking their ''stresses'' off-screen.

Popular Muvhango actress, Sindi Dlathu, has spoken out about the challenges faced by trained performers like her, confessing that she finds it difficult to detach from her dearly loved character Thandaza Mokoena at times.

In a recent interview with BONA magazine, Dlathu said professional actors often try to convince themselves that they’re able to detach from their characters, but all the while their bodies can’t tell the difference between their portrayed roles and their off-screen lives.

“Because we are trained performers, we tell ourselves that we’re out of it, yet the body won’t be. Most of us therefore suffer from fatigue, and it has symptoms of depression,” Sindi explained.

She adds that this leaves many actors with the stresses of their characters: “I play a sad character, and the mind doesn’t know this is just an act because I have to immerse myself into it …the sad thing is that sometimes we never really come out of it.”

Sindi has been with the popular SABC 2 soap since 1997 as one of the original cast members.  She started her illustrious television career in 1994 at the age of 14 as a teen starring in TV series such as Khululeka and Soul City on the public broadcaster.
