Trey Songz collaborates with African artists

We will have to wait to find out which South African artist the singer will collaborate with.

American R&B superstar Trey Songz is back for another South African stint. He is set to feature in the finale of Coca-Cola’s flagship music show Coke Studio. The episode will air on November 19. But who’s the lucky local artist he will collaborate with?

Guess we’ll have to wait until the episode airs, but the second incarnation of Coke Studio saw many artists from the continent performing with top South African stars. Songz is expected to jet into Nairobi, Kenya, this September, where he will be recording at Coke Studio Nairobi and performing live alongside artists from eleven participating countries, including South African artist Emtee.

Some of the other select African stars scheduled to perform with Songz are Nyashinski (Kenya), Vanessa Mdee (Tanzania), Stonebwoy (Ghana) and Neym (Mozambique).

Ahead of his anticipated participation in the show and his trip to Nairobi later this month Songz states: “I have always been committed to spending time on the continent of Africa yearly. My fans show me so much love when I’m there. I can’t wait to visit Kenya and partner with the Coca-Cola Company on this initiative. I am fortunate to be working with some of Africa’s biggest stars. I look forward to learning from them, making a lot of new friends as I discover what they have to offer.”

African producer Maphorisa of the Soweto Baby fame has been tasked with producing Trey Songz and the African stars. Coke Studio is a non-competitive music show that brings together diverse music talent for a world-class showcase, while giving upcoming artists the opportunity to work with some of the best local and international music and production talent.

With a lineup filled with the freshest in African talent, and star-studded hosts Nandi Madida, née Mngoma and Trevor ‘Trey’ Sineke, the 2016 edition of Coke Studio kicked off on Saturday, August 27, and will once again bring the beams to our screens and entertain viewers every Saturday night for 13 weeks.

The Coke Studio Season 2 artist lineup includes continental collaborations consisting of AKA and Patoranking, a Nigerian superstar, Cassper Nyovest with legend Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania, and Angola’s hottest property, Landrick, with Ash Muzic. Local pairings include rapper Nasty C with Buffalo Soulja, SAMA-award winning Rap artist Fifi Cooper with Ryki, along with many other exciting fusions that promise to bring next-level entertainment to music enthusiasts.
