Police chase leads to Acacia crash, pedestrian suffers broken leg

The bakkie driver is fighting for his life, while the pedestrian sustained a broken upper leg and other minor injuries.

An Audi rear-ended a Ford Bantam bakkie in Acacia on 22 October, under unclear circumstances.

Preliminary information remains vague, but early reports suggest the Audi was involved in a high-speed police chase.

The reason for the pursuit has not yet been confirmed.

The sister of the bakkie’s driver, who was present in the back of the ambulance, informed paramedics that the Audi had been involved in a police chase.

Her brother, the driver of the Bantam, had been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

A paramedic from the Provincial Ambulance Services told Highvelder that their team had been dispatched to treat a female pedestrian who was struck by the two vehicles involved in the crash, among others.

They also tended to the other injured parties in the accident.

The crash occurred right in front of the pedestrian’s home, and both vehicles caught fire.

By the time the Provincial Ambulance Services arrived, they reported that the fire had been extinguished.

The paramedic could not confirm whether it was members of the community, the police, or the Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue Services who had put out the flames, but all were present at the scene. Police are investigating the incident.

The driver of the Bantam bakkie is in critical condition, while the pedestrian suffered a broken upper leg and other minor injuries.

Despite these additional injuries being classified as light, her overall condition is considered serious due to the leg fracture. The driver of the Audi sustained only light injuries.
