The Womza National Rally Championship got underway the past weekend in Bronkhorstspruit with the Autobar 150 Rally.

Ermelo’s Wors Prinsloo and André Vermeulen kicked up dust in the eyes of their opponents as they finished first overall and first in their class with a time of 1:32:59.

They won four out of the overall stages in which they had competed.

Ermelo was well represented as Johan Strauss and Elzaan Venter in their Subaru Impreza managed a podium finish only

26 seconds adrift of the leaders.

Their finishing time was 01:33.25.

They also gave spectators something to cheer about as Strauss did not let up on the pedal during a jump on the final stage, which sent their Subaru soaring through the air, much to the delight of all watching.

Asked about the jump, Venter said, “It felt like our stomachs were in our throats. It’s hard to describe the feeling because it happens so fast.

“Also, we were actually just as surprised, we had no idea we were going to go that high.”

According to her, this race was one of her favourites.

Venter said despite their car getting hot on stage two from all the mud against the radiator, they had few to no problems.

“Stage three was physically hard on our bodies because of the distance (about 28km) and the tough terrain.

“Wet and muddy conditions also made it challenging to do the prologue and stage five, nonetheless we are very happy with the result,” she concluded.
