Ermelo Athletic Club excels at Blue Mining 5-in-1 Race

The 42.2 km marathon was extremely challenging and featured a daunting elevation gain of 412 meters.

ERMELO – Ermelo Athletic Club officially kicked off their 2025 running season with a strong performance at the challenging Blue Mining 5-in-1 race in Middelburg on 25 January.

What began as a picturesque morning according to Andries Koekemoer, one of the runners, transformed into a scorching hot day, testing the endurance of every participant on a route that featured a daunting elevation gain of 412 meters over the 42.2 km marathon distance.

Zelda Keyser received first place in the category of women over 50.

Despite the heat, the athletes from Ermelo delivered impressive performances across multiple distances:

  • Zelda Keyser (42.2 km) – 4:15:00 (1st place, women’s over-50 category)
  • Andries Koekemoer (42.2 km) – 5:19:00
  • Cicile Erasmus (42.2 km) – 5:16:00
  • Frik Henning (32 km) – 3:03:00
  • Mandy van der Merwe (21.1 km) – 2:20:00
  • Betsie Marais (21.1 km) – 2:20:00
  • Simoné Ferrera (15 km) – 1:20:00 (2nd place, women’s category)
Simoné Ferreira achieved second place in the 15 km women’s category.
