Ligbron teams show their mettle at interhouse

Throughout the day, learners cheered enthusiastically from the sidelines, dressed in vibrant team colours.

Ligbron Academy for Technology held its annual interhouse athletics event, showcasing strong competition among the different grades.

Each grade competed against one another, with the primary goal of identifying top athletes for the upcoming athletics season, while also encouraging maximum learner involvement.

Annelize Prinsloo, who oversees the Life Orientation (LO) at the school, collaborated closely with athletics organiser, Tiaan Rosslee.

Together, they implemented a strategy where participation was tied to LO practical points, motivating learners to participate.

Throughout the day, learners cheered enthusiastically from the sidelines, dressed in vibrant team colours.

In total, Ligbron’s learners participated 3 896 times across various events- an average of about four events per learner.

The results were as follows:

1. Grade 8s (Wild Cats) with 974 points
2. Grade 11s (Warriors) with 831 points
3. Grade 10s (Lightnings) with 781 points
4. Grade 12s (Mavericks) with 684 points
5. Grade 9s (Cowboys) with 626 points

Several athletes also received individual accolades. Marjolé Scheepers was named Junior Victrix Ludorum, while Ruan van Zyl was the Junior Victor Ludorum.

Alzira Potgieter claimed the title of Senior Victrix Ludorum, and Bandile Thanjekwayo was recognised as Senior Victor Ludorum.

“Rosslee and his team, who organised the event, successfully kick-started the season and deserve sincere congratulations for their hard work and dedication,” Gerhard Brand, Ligbron principal said.
