Top honours for Kearsney learner

Kearsney College's Dux for 2018 is Carl Combrinck.

KEARSNEY College’s current matrics have upheld the school’s exceptional academic standard with a record of 28 boys achieving academic honours, for an aggregate of more than 80 per cent.

Carl Combrinck was announced as this year’s Dux at the annual speech day and prize-giving awards.

He received academic honours cum laude, as well as subject prizes for mathematics, advanced mathematics, physical science, biology, information technology, poetry and modern languages.

His runner-up, Michael Lee, also received academic honours cum laude and subject prizes for English (shared), life orientation and Mandarin.

This year sees Kearsney’s first matriculants taking Mandarin as a subject in the final IEB examinations. They are KZN’s first non-Chinese learners to write the subject at this level.

The guest speaker at speech day, Dr Andrew Venter, CEO of the Wildlands Conservation Trust, urged those matriculating this year to follow their hearts.

“Make a difference. Inspire change. Follow your heart with the courage of a lion. It will set you up for greatness,” he told the boys.
