Westville group knits up a storm for children’s home
Kip McGrath educators spread festive cheer by donating handmade blankets to St Philomena’s Children’s Home.
TO add a dash of blue to the customary red, green and gold of the festive season, a group of remedial educators from Kip McGrath Education Centres recently donated blankets to St Philomena’s Children’s Home.
Devon Grant-Hayes, centre manager and educator at Kip McGrath Westville Education Centre, said educators sponsored and collected 100 balls of wool, which were handed over to Wendy Theunisson, an ambassador for 67 Blankets for Mandela Day, and her team of volunteer knitters from the Westville Social Knitwits.
“This was a record donation received by the volunteer group. Both groups have been working for months on this project, which was inspired by a former Kip McGrath parent, Marlene Hartin, who is an avid knitter,” said Grant-Hayes.

He added that Kip McGrath Education Centres encourage all educators to use the festive season as an opportunity to spread love and support to learners who may face challenges during this time.
“We would also love to start collecting stationery supplies for students in need to help prepare them for the new academic year,” he said.
