Crisp flavours at beer and food festival

Beer drinkers and food enthusiasts will be able to enjoy delicious craft beers and food at the Craft Republic Festival on Saturday 2 November.

BEER drinkers and food lovers are invited to explore an array of delicious craft beers and food at the Craft Republic Festival at Chris Saunders Park in Umhlanga on Saturday 2 November from 11am and until 8pm. The park will be transformed into a vibrant al-fresco piazza with hay bales in a pristine park-like setting.

Eight micro and independent craft breweries have been selected to exhibit their golden liquid, with flavours ranging from alcoholic ginger beer through to the fuller, bolder ales and lagers. The featured breweries are a balanced selection from Durban and KZN, supplemented by some labels from the Western Cape. The local lads are Old Main, Standeven, Robson and Unity Brassiere. Darling, Citizen, Dragon and Everson Breweries will be representing the Western Cape.

Non-alcoholic beverages and live music will also be available on the day.

“With the growing interest in craft beer and local cuisine, we decided to put a festival together to create an event that can be appreciated by lovers of great food and beer that is produced primarily at home in Durban, and with some exhibitors from outside KZN. We are thrilled that this is a proudly Durban event offering great products in a beautiful setting,” explains Rowan Clelland from Big Nite Out Production – the event organisers.

Event coordinator, Greg Martin stated, “Durban and South Africa are becoming more adventurous with their beers. With a number of top quality micro-breweries opening up, flavourful brews are easily accessible on our doorstep. The festival aims to highlight these premium ales and lagers by showing off and introducing the bouquet of brews that we have in our country.”

Tickets are R80 through Computicket or R100 at the door. No under 18s will be allowed. Young children accompanied by parents are welcome.
