
KICKSTART is holding auditions for its 2014 production of the Broadway musical, Annie.
KickstArt are looking for actresses aged nine to 14 years, of any race group, who are capable of speaking and singing in English with an American accent, to play the six orphans in Miss Hannigan’s orphanage, including the title role of Annie.
Auditions take place on Saturday 18 January in room M2 at the Playhouse’s Mayville Complex, Ramsay Road in Durban. Auditions for the girls will be between 10.30am and 1.30pm. No reservation of an audition time is necessary, but all applicants should arrive at 10am, and put their names on a list at the door.
Those auditioning need to take a short song with sheet music or backing track of musical theatre (not pop music) that shows off an ability to ‘belt’. If applicants get through the singing audition, they will be required to stay and attend a dance/acting audition. Applicants also need to prepare a short monologue (approximately a minute long) in an American accent. The audition lists will close at 11.30am.
Only appropriate rehearsal clothing and closed footwear for dancing is allowed. No slops will be allowed. Take along your own water, snacks and a towel.
Successful candidates in the singing, dancing and acting auditions, will be notified via a call back in the afternoon.
The show will rehearse from 19 April, weekday afternoons and/or evenings and weekend day times, until it opens on 16 May and runs until 15 June. Performances will be at 7pm on Tuesday to Saturday, and at 2.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.
