Durban Symphonic Choir prepares to mesmerise audiences

Get your tickets for the upcoming show by the Durban Symphonic Choir, accompanied by the KZNPO.

THE beautiful Requiem by John Rutter will be performed by the Durban Symphonic Choir, accompanied by the KZNPO, on Sunday, 16 August at 2.30pm at St Joseph’s Cathedral in Mariannhill.

The first half of the concert will be the Requiem, which is regarded as Rutter’s greatest contribution to the world of choral music. The conventional text in Latin has been enriched with English scriptural texts – Psalm 130 (‘Out of the deep’) and Psalm 23 (‘The Lord is my Shepherd’), which are set to his lyrical melodies and the occasional dissonance for dramatic effect.

In the second half, the choir and soloists will perform a variety of well-known pieces, including Mozart’s Regina Coeli and Laudate Dominum, Parry’s I was Glad, Malotte’s Lord’s Prayer and excerpts from Handel’s Messiah. Conducted by Naum Rousine, soloists include Vanessa Tait-Jones, Ntokozo Nokubeka, Wayne Mkhize, and Andile Dlamini.

Tickets cost R100 a person and are available at the door. Safe parking is available. For more information, contact Liz on 082 374 3965.
