Treat for orchid enthusiasts
Light lunches and refreshments will be sold in the tea garden.
AVID orchid fans are in for a treat in April as these plants will be put in the spotlight at the Natal Orchid Society’s annual Autumn Orchid Show.
This event will take place on Saturday, 16 April from 10.15am to 4pm and Sunday, 17 April from 9am to 3pm to view the display at the Parkhill Bowling Club off Umhlanga Rocks Drive, Durban North.
“Miltonias, phragmipediums, dendrobiums and vandas may be foreign-sounding names to some, but to the orchid enthusiast they are the plants most seen at this time of the year,” said Melanie van Greunen, vice-president of the Natal Orchid Society.
We are inviting all orchid lovers and keen gardeners to visit the show where these plants plus many more will be on display.
Potting demonstrations will be held on both days and a wide variety of orchid plants will be on sale, for those who want to add to (or start) their own collection. A raffle will also be held with a number of orchid plants as prizes.
Light lunches and refreshments will be sold in the tea garden. Entrance fee is R15 for adults and R10 for pensioners.
Existing orchid-growers and anyone interested in owning and nurturing these beautiful plants are invited to attend the monthly meetings of the Natal Orchid Society.
These are held at the Parkhill Bowling Club on the second Monday of every month at 7pm.
