Cuvee Brut you beaut!

Banker bets look hard to find at Kenilworth on today but Cuvee Brut looks a possibility in Race 9, a FM 78 Handicap over 1200m.

Jockey Corne Orffer is getting his chances this season for the Brett Crawford yard and he has already won two races aboard Cuvee Brut.

He was aboard the filly when she won at Durbanville in October. The daughter of Count Dubois came from well back to beat Candaleeya over the 100m which is not easy as it is a tight track and it is hard to make the ground.

Cuvee Brut followed that up with an easy 0.75-length defeat of Ladidah (who re-opposes in this race) over this course and distance.

A crack at the Grade 1 Fillies Guineas followed and although finishing 7.40 lengths behind Majmu, she was by no means disgraced.

Well backed to win in her next start jockey MJ Byleveld was caught too far out of his ground and despite finishing very strongly, she hung badly over last 250m and could only manage third place and beaten 1.45 lengths by Azarenka. Hopefully Orffer will keep her closer to the pace this time.

Ladidah has proven disappointing in her recent races but as she is 3.50 kg better off with Cuvee Brut for just 0.75 lengths she may well run close up.

Judpot filly Perini is in good form and could be a threat but a seven-point penalty for her recent success does look harsh as she had been running well without winning off her previous 70 mark.

Money Surger has been battling to win for some time but is capable of earning a place cheque.
