Fillies on show at Fairview

Two Listed races take place today on the turf at Fairview, with the first, the East Cape Fillies Nursery over 1200m likely to go the way of trainer Glen Kotzen.

He could take home the bulk of the prize money as both his runners – Princess Royal and The Good Wife – look promising fillies. Princess Royal is highly rated by the yard and is a half-sister to their champion filly Princess Victoria. This Captain Al two-year-old was full of running when winning on debut in January over 1100m at Kenilworth and was expected to do a lot better when 4.25 lengths behind Buckinghamshire in the Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes on J&B Met Day.

However, she was drawn on the wrong side of the track and could only finish fourth.

She was by no means disgraced as that field looked very decent and Princess Royal is sure to prefer the step up to 1200m this time. Stable companion The Good Wife was well backed in both her starts and ran fair races so she has to be considered although she might not have the scope of Princess Royal. The Justin Snaith yard must always be respected when sending out runners in Fairview features so debut winner Sunrise In Africa will have her supporters.

In the other feature, the Breeders Guineas over 1600m the visiting yards do seem to hold all the aces. Se Agabor is an interesting raider from the Gavin van Zyl yard and is perfectly drawn in stall No 1. Jockey S’manga Khumalo is sure to make a bold bid on this Trippi filly.

There are many dangers, however, and all of Cat And The Moon, One Way Ticket and Cathy Specific have to be respected.

In the race sandwiched between the two listed events promising unbeaten four-year-old Shauntrel will be searching for win No 4.

The Alan Greeff-trained import has been impressive to date and her rating of 76 still looks extremely generous. This course and distance suits this Shamardal filly and jockey Greg Cheyne has been aboard for all three wins.
