Countries all over the world have extended their travel bans on South Africa

Airlines and countries around the world have extended their travel bans on South Africa due to fears that travel could spread the South African variant of Covid-19 pandemic.
In February, the UK added South Africa to the list of 33 countries from where travelers will have to undergo compulsory hotel quarantine. As the number of cases continued to rise during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa, this raised many concerns with other countries and airlines.
A number of countries believe the 501Y.V2 variant of the coronavirus originates from South Africa and even refer to it as the “South African variant”. Even though the variant has been found in 48 other countries, a global impression has been given that South Africa is the source of the spread.
Here’s a list of the countries that have extended their travel ban on South Africa:
Belgium – British Airways announced suspension of all South Africa flights until 16 April.
France – British Airways announced suspension of all South Africa flights until 16 April.
Germany – British Airways announced suspension of all South Africa flights until 16 April.
Switzerland – British Airways announced suspension of all South Africa flights until 16 April.
Seychelles – Seychelles announced it would reopen for tourists around the world to travel to and from the country at the end of March, but said South Africa would be excluded, with no announced date of how long this travel ban will last.
United Arab Emirates – Emirates announced suspension of all South Africa flights until 20 April.
United Kingdom – British Airways announced suspension of all South Africa flights until 16 April.
