Bassline Festival and 4 other things to do this weekend

Australian-American superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger is in South Africa this weekend for Arnold Sports Festival Africa 2023.


For an entertainment-filled weekend, The Citizen has got you covered for this week. A lot is happening in and around Joburg, and you do not want to miss out.

Here are five events you can choose from for your outing this weekend:

The Jameson Distillery on Tour 

The Jameson Distillery on Tour Winter Edition kicked off this week at Hyde Park Corner on Thursday, Friday, and today from 17h30 to 23h00, and lastly on Sunday from 13h30 to 21h00.

Hosted by knowledgeable brand ambassadors who embody the jovial Jameson spirit, the tour experience hosts a series of tailored, interactive experiences highlighting Jameson’s Irish heritage and craft that stretches over 240 years.

This tour allows guests to experience what makes Jameson Irish Whiskey unique. 

Bassline Festival

Castle Lite is running a buy 3 and get 1 for a free deal for this weekend’s highly anticipated festival in Constitutional Hill, Johannesburg.

The festive is headlined by popular artists like Sjava, Simmy, and DBN Gogo, just to mention a few. Doors open at 2 pm until late today.

Arnold Sports Festival Africa 2023

 International superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger is back in Johannesburg this weekend for over 70 sports, Arts, and Entertainment events.

The City of Joburg, in partnership with Arnold Classic Africa Sports Festival, promises three days of action-packed entertainment, starting yesterday, 19 May, and will wrap on Sunday, 21 May, at the Ruimsig Stadium on Roodepoort.

“We are excited to be back in Johannesburg in partnership with the City of Joburg. Our event promises to be a celebration of sports, arts, and entertainment.

“We are looking forward to providing guests with an unforgettable experience. We invite everyone to join us at Ruimsig Stadium for a weekend filled with fun and excitement,” said Arnold Classic Africa in a statement.

Zebula Fly-in Experience

Another not to miss action-packed fun is in Bela Bela this weekend. The Zebula Fly-in takes place from 19-21 May. Pilots from all over the country will be flying in with various aircraft, including a flyby from a legendary aerobatic team.

There will be food stalls, a beer tent, and live entertainment by Ross Learmonth, the Ross Harding Band, and the Muse Band. Kids will also have a great time in the play area, and quad bike safaris will be available.

Mother’s Day paint workshop

Mother’s Day celebration continues in Benoni this weekend. For as little as R150, you can join the ‘Celebrating a Mother’s Love Paint Session’ at We Speak Art in Farramere, Benoni. The event will start at 12 noon until 1:30 pm on Sunday. R150 per person for the A5 canvas sheet and R250 per person for the A4 canvas sheet. More info here.
